High five

Sunday 3rd June 2012.
Today the street gathered to celebrate the Queens Golden Jubilee. We’ve had bunting out for weeks now, but on the 60th anniversary (to date) everyone put out the flags and cooked a roast to share. My family cooked pork with crackling and roast potatoes, and we were supplied with an array of alternating meats, vegetables, yorkshires and gravy. It was lovely and oh so very British!
We were intending to have the party outside on the street, like every other street celebration, but due to the poor weather; POURING DOWN RAIN!, the hosts decided to open up their garage and attach 2 gazebos to the front. It made a dry area in which we laid out the three long tables for us all to sit. We even had room for an alcohol table, or as the men liked to call it ‘The Bar’!
‘Meet and Greet’ came first with a champagne toast to the Queen and some nibbles. Alex gorged on an entire bowl of quavers and hula hoops and then ran around like a mad man on the neighbours lawn. It was sweet and he got alot of attention- mainly due to his bubbly nature, but also as he was the only toddler around.
Dinner time came swiftly after: everyone was very polite and generous. Alex’s plate was mounded up with a ridiculous amount of food. Not surprisingly he left most, but to my disbelief he ate crackling!! Quite a bit of it actually.
The roast was lovely and the desserts were even better. A spread of pavlova, pannacotta, cheescake, fruit salad, apple pie etc. I was overwhelmed with choice, and being the sweet toothed girl that I am, I opted for two desserts: pannacotta and pavlova, NOM!! (good choice). Alex tried some pavlova but hated it and screwed his face up in disgust. It made me laugh so much: looked like I was trying to poison him or something.
Throughout the courses, Alex played happily on the lawn amidst the flags. The smile on his face when he was given one to play with was the highlight of my day. He waved it around like a true patriot and shouted ‘YAY!!’ as he did.
After dessert came the cheese course, but just as I was about to cut in to the brie, Alex came to me looking very tired. I decided it best to take him inside and calm him down before his Dad came to get him. We played with his train set and did some artwork with the corks he had collected from the party.
When Alex’s Dad arrived to collect him, he showed him his new bed and demanded a reading of ‘The Gruffalo’. A few yawns followed which made me think he will sleep well tonight. I guess he must of had fun, I’m very glad :)

Sleeping in a big boy bed tonight!
First night out of the cot….huge deal for me, less so for the little dude. He loves it :) x
We’ve been chilling in the sun for the past week: the weather has been gorgeous!
Alex loves having all the freedom to play, most especially with his sand pit, paddling pool and football (his dribbling skills are really good now).
The only downside of all this outside mischief is the injuries! Alex looks like he’s been through the wars…on the up-side, it does mean he gets to wear cute ‘Peppa Pig’ plasters!!
Emma & Rhys’s Wedding.
Alex and I were lucky enough to be invited to a friends wedding. It was a beautiful day filled with love, laughter and tears of joy.
The bride was stunning and the groom was mesmerized. Rightfully so.
Alex wore his suit (the same one he wore to the wedding with Dan) and it still fitted! In fact, it was so well fitted it almost looked tailored. Also, the waistcoat was so similar to the grooms-mens that you couldn’t really notice the difference: lucky coincidence!
There was loads of babies and toddlers for Alex to mingle with and he had a blast! Though he got so tired towards the end that he zonked out asleep.
During the disco Alex met a girl and the two of them became inseparable. It was so cute. Though, the obvious best bit of the wedding (through Alex’s eyes) was the Mickey Mouse inflatable gift that he got at the wedding breakfast. He hasn’t put it down since!
Thank you for inviting us Mr & Mrs Lloyd. May you live a long and happy life together with your 2 beautiful sons :D xx
Suited and booted ready for next weeks wedding :)
Shirt needs ironing (collar is messed up) and he needs socks on…but you get the general idea.
